STOP THE CLOSURE OF GP SURGERIES
The Issue
STOP the government from eroding General Practice by offering 1.9% pay rise to GP surgeries on the background of around 50% pay cut that GP have suffered since 2008. Since October last year the government has rejected any proposal for a reasonable pay rise and improvement of working conditions for GPs, instead the government has agreed to grant more funding for associate physicians (colleagues with 1-2 years of training but without prescribing rights and Not doctors) who need to be supervised by GPs.This grant can cover the pay for specialist nurses ( nurses from hospitals ) but not general practice nurses and not for GPs, which means many GPs will be unemployed at a time when we have a huge deficit of GPs.
What this means for you , the general public and for all patients?
With no appropriate funding in place to pay the bills and pay the salaries of the employees and break even, GPs will not survive for too long and many will have to hand over the contract to the NHS England and close their GP surgeries.
So far, more than 1300 GP practices have closed but the number of patients have increased dramatically and the number of GPs have sharply declined due to the effect of the existing GP contract, while there are record number of unemployed GPs and the government is ignoring these facts!
GPs are fighting for a fair contract, for a fair pay and working conditions in order to practice safely and deliver good health care for their patients. This will allow to retain more GPs in practice without forcing them to go abroad and leave UK forever, will improve your access to GP and provide a better care for all of us.Otherwise, we are going to lose general practice forever and subsequently lose our NHS.
At the moment, many practices cannot break even , running out of money and cannot run the surgeries effectively, cannot employ more GPs as there is no funding for that, instead they are employing allied professionals, like the associates physicians. However, the government is saying that more appointments have been offered, these appointments are not with GPs but with associate physicians who are not doctors.
BY SIGNING THIS PETITION YOU ARE SUPPORTING GENERAL PRACTICE AND ASKING THE GOVERNMENT TO BROADEN THE FUNDING FOR THE ADDITIONAL ROLE REIMBURSEMENT SCHEME (ARRS) TO INCLUDE GPs AND GENERAL PRACTICE NURSES, AS WELL AS OFFERING BETTER PAY FOR GPs AS PER GPC PROPOSAL,TO MATCH THE DEFICIT THEY HAVE SUFFERED OVER THE YEARS, IN ORDER TO SURVIVE.
BY SIGNING THIS PETITION, WE WILL BE ABLE TO SHOW THE GOVERNMENT THAT PEOPLE CARE ABOUT GENERAL PRACTICE AND THEIR NHS !
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SIGNING THIS PETITION !
