I am a dedicated worker at Burman House, a residential home that has provided safe and comfortable shelter to many of our elder population throughout the years. It is heart-wrenching to know that those who call this place home are facing an uncertain future due to the planned closure. Our residents have built their comfort, familiarity, and sense of community within these walls, and do not deserve to have their lives disrupted in such a manner.

In 2019, over 400 residential care homes were forced into closure in the UK, throwing thousands of lives into a state of chaos (source: Office for National Statistics). The consequences were often detrimental to the physical and mental health of the elderly affected. As it stands, our country already faces a severe strain in aged care facilities. Closing down Burman House without providing a real, concrete and safe solution for our residents only feeds into this swelling problem.

In the interest of our residents' well-being and to prevent more unnecessary stress in their twilight years, we are appealing to the authorities to reconsider the closure of Burman House. Their safety, their comfort, and their home is in jeopardy, and we cannot stand by to let this happen without fighting for them.
