Stop the Closure of Barclays Bank Branch on Belgrave Road

Stop the Closure of Barclays Bank Branch on Belgrave Road
The Issue
We are deeply concerned for the future of Belgrave as Barclays bank announced that branch will close its doors on Friday 19th July 2024. People of Belgrave rely heavily on the services provided by our local Barclays Bank branch. This bank is not just a financial institution; it's a lifeline for minorities living in this area who often face barriers to accessing banking services elsewhere.
Barclays' decision is based on changing customer behaviours and fewer visits to branches. However, this does not take into account those who still depend upon physical banking services - particularly older residents and those without reliable internet access. In fact, according to Age UK (2019), over half of adults aged 65+ do not use online banking.
The closure will also impact local businesses that rely on this branch for their daily transactions. It's estimated that small businesses contribute £1.5 billion to Leicester’s economy annually (Leicester City Council Economic Action Plan). Without easy access to banking facilities, their operations could be severely disrupted.
We understand the need for banks like Barclays to adapt and evolve with changing times but urge them not to leave behind those who still need traditional banking services.
Please sign this petition urging Barclays Bank not only consider their digital customers but also those who rely on their physical branches in communities like ours here in Belgrave, Leicester.
