It’s important to note that the money spent on this property was taken directly out of the pot that was purposed for solutions to the city of Sacramento’s homeless crisis. In fact, it was the single largest line item in the entire list. 

At the time Mayor Steinberg said:

"We are finally acquiring the right sites to be able to stand up what is needed to provide the relief that all of our business corridors and neighborhoods deserve," Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said in a news conference Friday. "[To] actually help the people who are living in such disparate tent encampments and car encampments across the city."

So why is nothing happening to get people off the streets and into safe camping or shelter in this area? City officials say they don’t want to just move people from one place to the next yet they also don’t seem willing to follow through on creating the right places to have them move to and provide relief to businesses and neighborhoods as promised in the city’s own Measure O that they placed on the ballot and voters overwhelmingly approved. 

We are tired of all the rhetoric and excuses being made by city officials that refuse to support enforcement of or abide by the city’s own codes. 

When will the people get answers- and see progress actually being made- on the siting of emergency shelter locations in the city of Sacramento- as outlined in the ESEA/Measure O? 

Will it be once the people of Sacramento elect a new Mayor - and make some needed changes to the councilmembers tasked with certain districts? Perhaps. Time will tell.
