How can reckless policyallowing a full time homeless shelter to be located right next door to a foster Childrens Receiving Home in a park, close to R-1 zoned homes and schools, happen?

Approximately 90 acres of parkland are controlled by the city of Sacramento, but the nearest city voter is a mile away.

Furthermore- city of Sacramento ordinance 2021-0002 defines non-industrial or commercial zoned areas- parks, child daycare centers, and K-12 schools as “sensitive use areas” that should not be within 500 feet of a homeless shelter, yet the Mayor is willing to move forward with a plan that violates the city’s own definitions.

”There’s a number of us who think that, that is the heart of the problem- is that the land needs to be put back in the hands of the county…”

Currently, city decisions are made for this park, which is surrounded by county residents- without repercussions from county voters- who don’t vote in city elections.

This needs to change.
