Hello supporters.

Our community is greatly concerned about issues in Del Paso Regional Park, primarily the city of Sacramento’s Shelter they have created adjacent to the Sacramento Children’s Receiving Home on Auburn Boulevard. As we approach this election, a critical issue on our mind when selecting a candidate at the ballot is:

“Who will listen to us because they have a personal interest in our community, and care enough to use their position of influence in office to help change this for us?”

We are not opposed to a Homeless Shelter, but are opposed to the location next to a long-established refuge for kids escaping the culture that is embedded in the population the City of Sacramento is forcing into our community.

We reached out to candidates with the following question:

“How might you see yourself better positioned to help our community than any other candidate? In order to share with voters in your district- that are concerned about this important election issue within our community, please send us a statement with your thoughts and position from your campaign that we may post on our site referenced below.

We welcome all candidates' statements and will share as they make them available to us.

Please see below for response from Cathy Cook, Candidate for State Assembly District 6:

“I live in this neighborhood and I am well aware of this proposed project.  I'm President of Mission Oaks North Neighborhood Association and keep my neighbors informed.  Just about 2 years ago we had a stabbing murder by a mentally ill homeless person at a County Supported Care Facility on Engle Road very similar to what they are proposing on Auburn Blvd.   I oppose putting this Respite Center right between the Children's Receiving Home and Del Paso Park.  I believe it will become a magnet that will actually draw even more homeless people into the park and surrounding neighborhoods.  The project is not fully developed and even the Supervisors oppose the idea at this point.  I don't think this is the right solution.  I am in favor of a location at the old Boys Ranch on I-50 that is not being used at this time and already has all the necessities to open a permanent Respite Center for the homeless.

Thank You for the Opportunity to Express My Position,    Cathy Cook”
