At the moment it appears to be in the balance. Firstly the councillors were misled by the planning officer that either way they voted there would still be an incinerator built there - so there was a majority vote in favour. However, this was not true as the building that they had permission for (in 2014) is too small to contain the incinerator equipment and so had they rejected it the applicant would have had to submit another application and so it would have gone on. Now, however, we are waiting to see what the Secretary for State - Sajid Javid - has to say on the application. We are also exploring other avenues to challenge the decision. We are holding a public meeting on 14th February in East Riddlesden Hall at 6.30 to get everyone up to date with the latest developments and to appoint people to different roles within the group. If this incinerator is built it will have a knock on effect for the whole of the area across a 25 mile radius. The fallout from the plume will effect the air we all breathe and the visual affect on the valley will be enormous. If you live in Tong, Wyke etc. you might like to talk to your Councillors about which way they voted and why!
