Over 2000 signatures submitted to Save Gloucestershire from an expensive and disruptive break up.
Dear supporter,
Thank you for signing and sharing our important petition to keep Gloucestershire together as part of the changes to local government in Gloucestershire.
As a very quick reminder because I know it can get a bit of a confusing topic:
- The Government announced that all areas that our borough/district and county councils will be merged.
- This brings residents services under one council so you would have the same council for all your services (expect for a local parish council).
- Locally some MPs and district councillors have used this as a chance to call for Gloucestershire to be broken up instead of having one council for the area we would have two. This leaves us divided and costs more.
- Our petition was set up to give residents of Gloucestershire and businesses a voice to say that keeping Gloucestershire together avoids a costly break up and an unfair duplication of services.
The petition has been submitted 👍 so far so good!… so what’s next?
The petition was submitted at Gloucestershire Full Council with over 2000 signatures.
Glos live covered the story here and a member of the public also raised questions about the break up of the county so they’re also reported in the article: https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/news/gloucester-news/calls-reality-check-over-more-10501877.amp
A response is expected from the County Council CEO or Leader to the petition and we will share this as soon as we have it!
Councillors will be expected to vote in the coming months on their preferred options. This would be a good time for residents from across Gloucestershire to make their views known to your councillors, submitting questions to your councils for full council can also be a useful way to have your views heard!
The petition will be shared with Government in Westminster next so please do keep talking to friends and family and let’s keep growing our petition.
Thank you
Richard
