This week has seen proposals come forward from Cheltenham Borough Council backed by Cotswold District Council for the break up of Gloucestershire.

The proposals are to be debated by councillors and the paper is now out.

• Some eye catching elements of the proposals include separating key services such as children’s care services.
• Replacing the single Gloucestershire County Council with two councils called ‘Cotswolds & Cheltenham’ and Gloucester, Stroud Valleys and Forest. (Seemingly forgetting ‘The Dean’ and  ‘Tewkesbury’ altogether) 
• The cost of two councils is estimated at  3 x greater and that’s excluding the cost of separating children services.
• The boundaries will leave many areas considered to look towards Gloucester in the Cheltenham but no boundary review is proposed to meet Government tests rather than residents needs.
