There's currently an attack on education in the United States, especially on history and civics education, as well as book bans. One of the places this education inequity is most prevalent is in the southern states. Our test scores are falling rapidly, and as seen in daily life. The lack of education is starting to eat away at us- it's not just people forgetting what America is about, they're not being taught what America is about. 
Children in the south are being taught the civil war as the, "War of Northern Aggression," and some states are even teaching the children that the slaves in the antebellum south were "happy" because they were singing and dancing. There are also people who don't know the different parts of our own legislative branch, and don't even know their rights.  Not only that, but several dystopian novels, history books, books about expression, and piece of philosophical literature are being wiped from school and public shelves...It's incredibly alarming.

The very foundation of our country is at stake here. In order to make effective advancements and changes in society, and in order to progress, people must know the past, as well as know how our government works so that we can protect ourselves and those we care about. Additionally, the books that are being banned help serve as a sense of not only morals, but as warnings as to what can happen if current societal problems aren't solved and get worse. Education is the path to a harmonious, empathetic, and successful future, and it's being taken away from our children. 

Now is the time to act! These children will soon be the ones running our country, and voting in our booths. In order to make the best choices in the voting booth, as well as build a harmonious society, our children must be informed of the past, how our government works, and be aware of fictional, yet possible futures.
