Stop the Ban on Wolf Hybrids in Roanoke, VA

Stop the Ban on Wolf Hybrids in Roanoke, VA
The Issue
My personal stake in this matter is my beloved pet—a wolf dog who has been nothing but a source of joy and companionship for me.
Right now, there is one poor handler who is breaking the leash laws, and letting his pups run loose. Instead of banning a breed, and creating new laws, how about we enforce the laws that are already in place.
Despite widespread myths, wolf hybrids, like any other large dog breeds, are inherently gentle beings when nurtured in a loving environment. Yet, the current wave of fear and misinformation surrounding wolf hybrids in Roanoke, VA, threatens to implement an unsubstantiated ban that will label my dog, and others like him, as dangerous. This is a terrifying prospect for me as it is unclear whether my wolf dog, who has never posed a threat to anyone, would be affected by such legislation.
Statistics and studies have shown that wolf hybrids are no more dangerous than other large dog breeds. According to a study published by the American Veterinary Medial Association (AVMA), the propensity for aggression lies more with the individual upbringing of a dog rather than its breed. Wolf hybrids, in fact, have been shown to be less likely to bite than many standard large dog breeds. They deserve to be judged individually, not by skewed perceptions or irrational fear.
Furthermore, wolf hybrids, when forbidden by law, pushes ownership underground and discourages responsible and transparent ownership practices. Instead of blanket bans, we should focus on educating potential owners and promoting responsible handling to ensure both pet and public safety.
Urging for a ban based on isolated incidents and fear hinders a compassionate understanding of these animals. Requiring owners like myself to register our pets as 'dangerous' strictly because of their breed, regardless of their behavior, is both cruel and unjust.
Join me in opposing this hasty and misinformed ban, and in advocating for the fair treatment of wolf hybrids in our community. Together, we can work towards more balanced and factual-driven legislation that respects both animal welfare and public safety.
Sign the petition to educate our community about the truth of wolf hybrids and stop a ban that punishes responsible pet owners in Roanoke, VA.
