Stop the Ban on Dogs from Colwyn Bay to Rhos on Sea beach

Stop the Ban on Dogs from Colwyn Bay to Rhos on Sea beach
The Issue
As a devoted dog owner, my family and I have been regular visitors to the beautiful beaches of Colwyn Bay and Rhos on Sea for years. It has become an integral part of our lives, providing us with countless joyful memories and a place to relax and unwind. However, I recently discovered that Conwy County Borough Council is considering imposing a ban on dogs at Colwyn Bay beach, from Porth Eirias to Rhos Point. The proposal is for this to be year round, covering the whole stretch and replacing the existing seasonal ban which covers Porth Eirias to the pier.
This potential ban deeply concerns me as it would have a significant negative impact not only on my life but also on the lives of many other local residents who cherish this beach as much as we do. Dogs are not just pets; they are beloved members of our families who deserve the opportunity to enjoy outdoor spaces alongside us.
I firmly believe that responsible dog owners should be allowed to bring their well-behaved furry companions to public spaces like Colwyn Bay beach. By doing so, we can promote responsible pet ownership while fostering a sense of community among fellow dog lovers.
It is important to note that there are already existing regulations in place regarding dogs at Colwyn Bay beach. These regulations include exclusion zones which address any concerns about safety or cleanliness without necessitating an outright ban.
Moreover, studies have shown numerous benefits associated with allowing dogs in public areas such as beaches. Research conducted by the University of Liverpool found that spending time with dogs can significantly reduce stress levels and improve overall mental well-being (source: University of Liverpool research study). Additionally, according to The American Heart Association, owning a dog has been linked to lower blood pressure and reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases (source: The American Heart Association).
By maintaining the current regulations rather than imposing an outright ban, Conwy County Borough Council can strike a balance between preserving the joy of visiting Colwyn Bay beach while still accommodating responsible dog owners. This approach would ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy this stunning beach, whether they have two legs or four.
I urge Conwy County Borough Council to reconsider their proposal and instead focus on promoting responsible dog ownership through education and enforcement of existing regulations. Let us work together to find a solution that respects the needs of all beachgoers while preserving the freedom for dogs and their owners to enjoy Colwyn Bay beach.
Please sign this petition if you believe in maintaining access for well-behaved dogs at Colwyn Bay beach. Together, we can make a difference and protect the rights of responsible dog owners in our community.
