Our petition worked temporarily the (ALPOA) has put their plans on "HOLD". They have sent a letter of apology to their members and are now rethinking their plans. The plans outlined in the "Winter Update" only restrict access to the lake, trails, and boat launch.
We learned the ALPOA is now the "Avery Lake Environmental Stewardship Council", a NONPROFIT Organization! This group does not represent all the property owners on Avery Lake and is a small group of mostly part time residents.
In researching the application submitted, we spoke with the MSU biologist, DNR officials and found no studies to support their claims.
The improper actions taken by this organization in Oct. 2022, only highlighted the lack of professionalism and knowledge of the project. They showed little consideration for their members and none for the public. This is STATE LAND. The DNR should not accept any "Non-Event Applications for Use of Department Managed Land" by this organization without public input, strict oversight and liability insurance.
Our objective is to keep state land accessible for everyone to enjoy while protecting the environment. We ask the Department of Natural Resources to have public discussion regarding changes to the state land around Avery lake.
Thank you again for all your support! We will keep you posted on future developments.
