STOP THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT KILLING OUR KANGAROOS!

STOP THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT KILLING OUR KANGAROOS!
The issue
Stop the Brutal Slaughter of Kangaroos – Protect Australia’s Gentle Icons.
Kangaroos are the beating heart of the Australian landscape — gentle, social, and nurturing animals who care deeply for their young. They are not just symbols on our coat of arms or souvenirs sold to tourists — they are living, feeling creatures who raise their joeys with tenderness, hopping side by side across our vast open spaces. Yet every night, under the cover of darkness, they are being hunted, shot, and butchered in one of the largest commercial slaughter of land-based wildlife anywhere in the world.
This must stop!
When a kangaroo mother is shot, her joey — still curled safely in her pouch — often suffers an even more horrific fate. Tiny, defenceless babies are pulled from their dead mother’s pouch and decapitated, or their skulls are crushed against bull bars or truck tyres. This is considered “standard practice” under current regulations. Let that sink in. Many adult kangaroos are not shot dead and are left to bleed to death for days in total agony or are eaten alive by eagles and other carnivorous creatures.
We are told it is “humane”, “controlled”, and “sustainable”. But the truth is far more disturbing. Wounded kangaroos often suffer slow, painful deaths. Joeys are left to starve or are brutally killed. Entire mobs are wiped out. The killing is relentless — for meat, skins, pet food, and profit — and it’s being done in the name of population control, with barely any public scrutiny or compassion.
These are intelligent, sentient animals, who bond with their young and their mob, they grieve they mourn, they suffer - yet government puts profit and monetary greed before the lives of these precious innocent creatures.
We, call on our leaders to:
• Immediately suspend all commercial kangaroo slaughter and large-scale culling operations across Australia.
• Launch an independent federal inquiry into the cruelty, ethics, and ecological impacts of the kangaroo industry.
• Introduce stronger legal protections for kangaroos, especially for mothers and joeys.
• Ban the cruel inhumane killing of pouch-young and at-foot joeys, and invest in humane, non-lethal management alternatives such as desexing males as wildlife carers have commenced doing to keep population low.
• End the myth that kangaroos are pests, and start treating them as the national treasures they are. Kangaroos have roamed this land for over 20 million years. They were here before any of us! They belong here! They are not pests. They are not property. They are gentle mothers, loving protective fathers curious young joeys, wise elders — they deserve respect and to live a peaceful protected life as they have a rightful place on this earth.
There are other effective, humane alternatives to mass culling that are being deliberately overlooked. Methods such as desexing, fertility control programs, relocation, and wildlife corridors have all been proven to reduce kangaroo populations in a sustainable and ethical way — without resorting to widespread slaughter.
This isn’t about population control — it’s about making way for billion dollar companies, businesses and industries that profit significantly from the commercial killing of kangaroos — primarily for their meat, leather, and pet food. Kangaroo meat is marketed both domestically and internationally.
as long as there’s profit in their slaughter, the pressure to continue and expand these killings will remain, approved and supported by government policy that favours economic gain over ethical wildlife management.
