To: The Government of Canada, Provincial and Municipal Leaders, and Event Organizers

The time has come for Canada to take a firm stand against the repeated encroachments on our sovereignty by the United States. We, the undersigned, demand an immediate end to the playing or singing of the American national anthem at any event held on Canadian soil.

For too long, Canada has allowed American influence to seep into our institutions, our culture, and even our national ceremonies. This is not simply a matter of tradition or courtesy—this is about protecting our identity as a sovereign nation. The United States has repeatedly demonstrated a disregard for Canada’s independence, from economic bullying to political interference. Most disturbingly, former U.S. President Donald Trump has refused to rule out the use of force against Canada. Given this open threat, it is utterly unacceptable that we continue to give symbolic recognition to a nation that views us as a subordinate or even a potential target.

Why This Matters

🇨🇦 Canadian Sovereignty Is Under Threat – The U.S. has a long history of treating Canada as an extension of its own interests rather than an independent country. Allowing their anthem to be played on our soil only reinforces this subjugation.

🚨 The Growing Threat from the U.S. Government – Donald Trump and his supporters have openly entertained the idea of taking Canada by force. We must stop legitimizing their claims by giving space to their anthem in our events.

🎶 Our Anthem, Our Identity – Canada is not the 51st state. Playing the American anthem at our events is a symbolic submission to foreign influence. O Canada should be the only anthem heard at Canadian events, period.

🏒 No More American Influence in Our Arenas – Canadian sports teams, leagues, and events must put an end to this outdated practice. Our athletes and fans should not be subjected to a display of American dominance before our own national games.

This is not about diplomacy or friendship—this is about respect for our nation. Canada must stand strong in the face of increasing American aggression, both political and cultural. We must send a clear message: Canada is a sovereign nation, and our anthem is the only one that belongs here.
