** Urgent reminder to comment on the EIS regarding the warehouses **

The City of Puyallup is starting to prepare the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed 7 huge warehouses on the farmland adjacent to the Shaw Road Overpass (in addition to one big warehouse that was recently built).  The City is accepting scoping comments from the public until December 17.  The 4,000+ of you that signed the petition have helped the City get the legal right to prepare this EIS.  Now is the time to engage to make a difference and protect our community!

Please click on the below City link, which provides an easy and fast way to provide your input.  This link to the Knutson Farms Environmental Impact Statement gives you boxes to check on issues that are important to you and a box for written comments. Suggested comments include:

·         The proposal is too big for this location.  Trucks will overload the already congested Shaw Road and East Main. The City must mitigate the traffic impacts and the only realistic way to do that is to scale back the number of warehouses.

·         Farmland and open space must be protected as mitigation for the project.  This farmland is important to Puyallup’s heritage and community character and has some of the best agricultural soil in the world.

·         The new Van Lierop Park and the new Step by Step facility must be protected with mitigation that preserves their character.  Warehouses adjacent to these highly valued new community assets are incompatible.

·         The floodplain, wetlands, and salmon must be protected.

Your comments will make a difference!!
