STOP the 5g cell tower in the Ganaraska Forest-Protect our Greenbelt,Wildlife & community

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of the Ganaraska Forest and surrounding communities, strongly oppose the proposed construction of a 100-foot 5G cell tower by Rogers Communications on protected Greenbelt land.

Rogers is attempting to erect this tower on a private farm in our community for a 100- year lease. This proposal is not only exploitative, it’s also harmful, unnecessary, and contrary to federal and environmental protections.

The Ganaraska Forest is part of Ontario’s Greenbelt, home to rich biodiversity, including endangered and threatened species. The long-term radiation exposure from cell towers—especially 5G—can interfere with wildlife communication and navigation, disrupt ecosystems, and affect human health. Many of us moved here specifically to avoid this kind of urban infrastructure and live in a healthier, quieter environment.

Rogers claims the tower is needed to improve service, but our current service is already reliable—often better than nearby urban areas like Bowmanville, Courtice, Oshawa, and Port Hope. Meanwhile, 5G towers only cover a small area (1–5 km radius), and the Greenbelt’s development restrictions mean no significant population growth will occur here to justify new infrastructure.

This tower:

•Contradicts the Federal Radiocommunications Act, which requires infrastructure to be based on demonstrated need.
•Threatens protected ecosystems and wildlife.
•Undermines the community’s trust and the spirit of the Greenbelt Act.
•Offers no clear benefit to the area it is being imposed upon.

We believe this decision must be reversed.

We are calling on:

•Rogers Communications to withdraw the proposal for this tower.
•Our elected officials—including our local MP—to oppose this plan and help represent our voices at all levels of government.
•Members of the public to stand with us in defending our land, wildlife, and way of life.

A town hall will be held July 3rd 2025, and we will be there to speak up. Help us show that this community is united and that our environment, health, and democratic say matter more than corporate convenience.

Please sign and share this petition. Let’s stop this tower—together.
