Stop teachers from teaching Arabic numerals in American public schools

Stop teachers from teaching Arabic numerals in American public schools
The Issue
Every day, we send our children to school to learn an American curriculum. It has recently come to light that many teachers in our public schools are imposing upon our children a numbering system that is plain un-American: Arabic numerals.
It’s disheartening that teachers in our public educational institutions are promoting the use of Arabic numerals. In some schools, kids are required to use Arabic numerals as the MAIN number system, yet, there is a lack of discussion about our comfort and rights as parents.
There is a glaring absence of choice in the matter. Our children are presented with this system, and parents like me are expected to simply comply without consideration of our preferences. This forced usage in public schools, funded by taxpayers like myself, is diminishing our identity as Americans. We are not against progress, but we do want options that respect the cultural foundations of our education.
Recent studies have found an alarming number of American students can only identify the numbers 6 and 7. This is outrageous. In American public schools, we should be using American numbers only.
We call upon local educational authorities and policymakers to rethink curriculum standards that allow Arabic numerals to be taught in our schools. We believe our American education system should reflect our rights and pride as Americans first.
Join us in urging the school boards and education departments to prohibit the use of Arabic numerals in our public schools. Sign this petition to demand this change necessary to preserve our cultural heritage.
