BREAKING NEWS: Major greyhound racing sponsor, Connolly's Red Mills, withdraws sponsorship.
RTE News is reporting today that animal feed manufacturing company Connolly's Red Mills has "joined the growing list of companies to pull sponsorship from greyhound racing, in the wake of a recent broadcast about the industry by RTÉ Investigates".
Announcing its decision, the company referred to "cruel and unscrupulous practices" in the greyhound industry and said that the failure to address these "unacceptable activities" led to its decision.
"The welfare of greyhounds is of the utmost concern to Connolly's Red Mills and the company is horrified by the completely unacceptable acts that were broadcast by RTÉ," it added. "No one who cares about animals can condone the practices depicted in the broadcast."
