A shopping centre in Cork has promised to stop supporting a local greyhound track after being told about all the dogs that suffer injuries and die there. Over the past few years, Wilton Shopping Centre has been sponsoring "Best Dressed Couple" and "Best Dressed Lady" competitions at Curraheen Park stadium, offering €1,500 in shopping vouchers to those judged to be the best dressed. But following complaints ahead of another "Best Dressed Lady Competition" at the track on 14th July, the centre moved to assure people that this year would be the last. In a message emailed out and posted on Facebook, the Wilton Shopping Centre manager stated: "We have taken on board the concerns that have been expressed and we will not be supporting this local business again." In the past three and a half years, 83 dogs have suffered injuries at Curraheen Park and 30 were killed by track vets. No business should support this or any other greyhound track.
