A greyhound crashed to the ground at Mullingar Stadium on Saturday in a race shamefully sponsored by the Gain Pet Food company. https://youtu.be/qFnJw8Z5kbc?t=18s The 1-year-old greyhound ("Whatcha Macalit") can be seen tumbling head-first into the ground after being knocked over at the first bend. The "Gain Family Day" race was referred to as "a messy affair" by the commentator. Mullingar greyhound track is the worst in Ireland for greyhound injuries and deaths. In the past three years, 211 greyhounds suffered injuries there and 45 were killed by a track vet. The Sunday Times has reported that "of the 45 dogs that died or were euthanised after racing in Mullingar, 36 were injured on the first bend" and that injuries suffered by the dogs included "severed spine" and "fractured hock bone". https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/ireland/revealed-mullingar-greyhound-race-tracks-death-toll-shame-0tc3z9vhz Join us in our appeal to Gain Pet Food to show compassion for the dogs and stop sponsoring the cruel greyhound industry.
