Clifton has been supplying medical and dental benefits to our city council, mayor and part time administration at a cost of $22,000 per year for a single plan and $44,000 per year for a family plan.  These positions are not full time in nature.  Other part time workers at city hall do not receive these benefits.  If the city used the State Health Benefits program, it would be illegal for these people to be given health insurance.  But since Clifton is self-insured, these part time workers are given benefits.  And if their health insurance costs are above the cost paid, the city’s premiums increase the next year.  This is not fair to the Clifton taxpayers and inflates our budget and thus our taxes.  It also encourages people to run for office for the free benefits.  

Clifton can no longer afford to supply our part-time council and administrators’ medical benefits. The council also receives free life insurance that pays out $50,000 upon death.  The time has come to discard these perks to our part time council, part time mayor and part time administators such as attorneys.  Please sign below to have these benefits ended at a savings to the Clifton Taxpayers.
