The Issue

In the past 48 hours, three cats have been killed outside our house by speeding cars. This is distressing - and, of course, devastating for the families whose pets have been killed.

Every morning and afternoon, Church Lane is busy with children on foot and on bikes travelling to and from the local schools. It is not an overstatement to say that it is only a matter of time before a much more serious accident happens on Church Lane if speeding is not addressed.

Like many residents in the area, we have a young daughter. We don't want her, or other local children, to grow up with a wholly avoidable danger right on their doorstep.

The bottom (or High Road) end of Church Lane already has speed bumps, so the need for speed control on the road has presumably been recognised in the past.

Unfortunately, our perception is that the current arrangement is counterproductive: the speed bumps at the lower end do little to prevent drivers accelerating along the upper section of the road, leaving a significant stretch without any effective traffic calming. It seems illogical to have speed control on one half of the road but not the other.

Please sign to support the introduction of traffic calming measures along Church Lane.
