Hi Everyone
I wanted to update you with some updates regarding the changes requested on this petition since the last Police Commission meeting in July. As you know the Police Commission voted to table the request for changes to the road until September. On August 23rd Captain Irizarry, Brenda Kupchick, Experts from Connecticut Transportation Institute, UConn Traffic Safety Circuit, Meghan McCloat, Mr. Raveis and myself met on Redding Rd and discussed potential solutions to improve the challenges we have been facing.
As of the PC meeting on 9/13 rumble strips and white edge lines have been approved as part of a first phase to be implemented.
Further changes to be made based on engineering experts and further analysis include:
1: 2 round abouts to calm traffic. 1 at Dunham/Redding Rd and another north of the Merritt at Cross Hwy
2: Implementing a State approved "school zone"
For reduced speed limits at Dwight Elementary and potentially Burr and Fairfield Country Day. This would allow for increased enforcement in those zones
3. A potential creation of a natural walkway path along Redding Rd and brush cleanup by DPW.
4. Potentially implementing a weight limit to the Merritt Pkwy Bridge that would deter large trucks from using RR as a cut through.
5. Fog lines and center rumble strips to reduce distracted driving risk ( approved by PC on 9/12)
Presently we are awaiting results from the Town Engineering survey which will be completed within the month with formal recommendations to present at the next PC meeting .
We are very happy with the progress that is being made, and the cooperation and support of everyone involved to make Greenfield Hill safer and enjoyable for everyone.
Thank you for your support as your signatures and comments have been heard. I will continue to update you with the outcome of future PC meetings.
