The Ontario government has decided to implement a phone ban, teachers will direct you to the office to hand in your phone until a given time. Now they decided to add a social media ban, meaning we can no longer use any sort of social media on school wifi.

Here's the problem with this new ban:

• This is a major disadvantage for students who don't have phone numbers or phones at all. Social media is their only way to contact their friends or more importantly, their parents.
• The world is getting more and more dangerous each year. If a school is under a lockdown, we will have no outside information on what is going on, and that's terrifying. 
• Students use certain social media platforms for inspiration with anything to do with creativity. Art inspiration, music notes, writing, etc. Students can no longer use these resources with the new ban.
• Lunch. Even though the phone ban says we can use our phones in our own times, there would be no point because of the new social media ban. We cannot contact our friends to ask where they are, we cannot go on scroll anywhere, you get the jist.
• If a teacher is unable to teach a subject in a way we can understand, we can no longer use the resources we had to learn how to do it independently. 

These are only the few reasons as to why the social media ban is impactful to students. We ask that every student in the province that believe the social media ban is unreasonable, please help grow this petition.
