I spent three hours down at Second Sunday today, clipboard in hand. 448 signatures now, total, between the online and the paper petitions. Interesting chatting with folks enjoying the sunshine, walking their dogs and kids, ambling from booth to booth-people who stopped to sign the petition were passionate about the issue, in fact, tourists expressed stronger feelings about Williamsburg staying "Williamsburg" than most of us locals. Their comments included:
"I won't be back if this place changes like that [with major zoning changes]"
"That's crazy! Who thinks that's a good idea?"
"Oh no no no, not here..."
And my favorite, "It must be the same people who thought cutting down all the mature cherry trees over here (on Prince George Street) was a good idea!"
