Give Children Equal Protection From Assault

The Issue

Children in England & Northern Ireland are UNPROTECTED. Children in Scotland & Wales have the same protection as ADULTS in law from physical assult.
The ban in Scotland was enforced in 2020 with Wales following shortly after in 2022.
Isn't it time we caught up?

The Children Act 2004 defines smacking as unlawful. Yet the law in England and Northern Ireland states that it is LEGAL for a parent to discipline their child physically, if it’s a reasonable punishment.
NSPCC and Barnardo's also suggest England must follow suit & give children the same protection as adults!

Some of you will be SHOCKED to know in a recent YouGov poll in the UK that 83% said they were smacked as a child. In addition, 32% admitted to believing hitting was a good form of discipline for children.

Research shows that physical punishment such as smacking, hitting, shaking, shoving & other corporal punishment in childhood increases the likelihood of the child growing into an adult with:
• Addiction issues
• Aggressive behaviour
• Mental health problems
• Lower self regulation abilities
• Anti social behaviour
and more.
If we want to raise & experience a healthier, kinder, calmer generation, we need to act now!

This has already been rejected in England with statement from the education secretary at the time, that they don't want to 'end up in a world where we are nannying people about how they bring up their children.' But the change in law will improve communities, directly IMPROVE CHILDREN'S LIVES & society as a whole.

By no means do we believe that children will never be smacked again but by changing the law it can certainly be reduced.

We NEED 100,000 signatures within 6 months at the least to be able to get any consideration!

It's time to finally catch up & get through to the government of England & NI by 2024!
