The Issue
Living in the beautiful community of Temecula, my family and I have grown to cherish the unique charm and tranquility this area provides. However, there is a looming threat that could drastically alter the landscape, our community's safety, and overall quality of life: the SDG&E proposal to construct electric towers through Temecula Creek along the Temecula Parkway corridor.
This proposal, the “Golden Pacific PowerLink” with 500 kV tower lines above ground poses a significant safety concern. As a parent, the thought of having massive towers generating electromagnetic fields just a stone's throw away from the schools my kids attend is alarming. The long-term health implications of prolonged exposure to these fields are still a topic of debate among experts. It's not a risk I'm willing to take when it comes to my children's wellbeing.
Beyond the health concerns, the construction of these towers would likely lead to a decrease in property values. Our homes represent more than just shelters; they are significant investments. The looming presence of industrial structures can deter potential buyers and lower the market appeal of this picturesque area.
The environmental impact is another grave concern. Temecula Creek is a hub of natural biodiversity, home to a variety of flora and fauna that contribute to the ecological balance. The introduction of electric towers and associated construction activities could have detrimental effects on this fragile ecosystem.
Additionally, Southern California is already a high-risk area for wildfires. Adding electric towers increases the risk of ignition and subsequent wildfires, putting lives, properties, and natural resources at further risk.
Instead, we urge SDG&E to explore alternative routes that do not compromise the safety, environmental integrity, and property values of our beloved community. It's crucial for public utility projects to align with the interests and welfare of local residents.
We cannot allow this project to proceed without voicing our concerns and opposition. Every signature counts towards sending a strong message to decision makers: Protect Temecula's residents and natural beauty and consider safer options. Please sign the petition and help us safeguard our community for current and future generations. Together, let's ensure that our voices are heard.
