On 4th March 2024 Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council issued a Traffic Regulation Order (Order NO 1 2024) for prohibiting the parking of Motor Caravans on Marine Parade and Glenside in Saltburn between 8pm and 8am.

According to the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) (Great Britain) Regulations 1979, a motor caravan is defined as:

"A motor vehicle which is constructed or adapted for the carriage of passengers and their effects and which contains as permanently installed equipment the facilities which are reasonably necessary for enabling the vehicle to provide mobile living accommodation for its users." 

Residents of the town have not been fully consulted on this matter and it will have a detrimental affect on Saltburn's surfing community, both residents and visitors, local businesses and Saltburn's reputation of being a welcoming, friendly place to be and enjoy. Saltburn has a unique vibe which will be destroyed if this amendment goes ahead and we wish to prevent this entirely. There has not been any suitable provision put in place by the Council to accommodate Motor Caravans, they just want to ban them.

What will this Order affect:

• Reduce the capacity for overnight motor caravan visitors to Saltburn
• Have an impact on the surfing community who use that area to park overnight, early and late, a lot of which have campervans
• Have an impact on local businesses (loss of income)
• Create more parking issues elsewhere, i.e Jewel Streets
• Have an impact on the cleanliness of the area (overnight stays litter pick and clean up broken glass/others dog poo)
• Kill the vibe and feel of Marine Parade

Immediate action is needed to inform the Council that this is not what the residents and visitors of Saltburn want, the Traffic Regulation Order is currently live and the date for the consultation to close is 26th March 2024.

We the undersigned ask Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (Marske, New Marske and Saltburn) NOT to amend Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (Marske, New Marske and Saltburn) (Waiting, Loading and Parking Places) Consolidation Order 2003 by inserting a new Schedule 2.93 No Waiting 8pm -8am Motor Caravans at any of the stated points on Glenside, Saltburn or Marine Parade, Saltburn.
