Stop Ride-Share in Bermuda – Protect Our Transport Industry

Stop Ride-Share in Bermuda – Protect Our Transport Industry
The Issue
Dear Fellow PSV Owners and Operators,
The Bermuda Taxi Owners and Operators Association (BTOA) is calling on all members of the public service vehicle (PSV) industry— Taxi, Airport Taxi, Limo, and Minibus owners and operators to take a stand by signing our official petition to reject rideshare expansion in Bermuda.
This petition represents the first step in showing industry consensus and shared sentiment. It will give the BTOA Executive a clear mandate to act on your behalf, based on the will of the majority in the industry.
WHY THIS PETITION MATTERS
This is more than a formality. It is a public declaration that:
- We reject the introduction of seasonal or private rideshare licenses without proper consultation and transparency.
- We stand against the devaluation of taxi permits and decades of personal investment.
- We will not accept the ongoing failure to enforce regulations while illegal operators continue without consequence.
With enough signatures, we will present the petition publicly, showing the media, Members of Parliament, and the Government that over 1000 owners and operators stand united in refusing rideshare. This will strengthen our formal communications and increase public pressure.
WHAT WE ARE DEMANDING
We, the undersigned, respectfully call on Parliament to:
- Guarantee the protection of existing taxi permits and prevent their devaluation.
- Halt any further plans for seasonal or private ride-share pilot or licensing until full economic impact reports and proper industry consultations are completed.
- Ensure full transparency of financial & operational interests in apps such as Hitch, Ride.bm, and other digital dispatch networks.
- Support a driver-owned dispatch model (Journi Ltd), which keeps wealth and control within the local PSV industry.
- Commit to stronger enforcement of illegal and unregulated transportation services.
