Petition updateStop Rezoning on Maple & 49th AvenueVancouver City Council Failed It’s Citizens

Update: Unfortunately, I have disappointing news to share. Vancouver City Council has approved the RR-2B rezoning on Maple Street, despite the strong opposition we brought to the public hearing.
Our community raised serious, well-documented concerns — about inadequate parking, overcapacity at Maple Grove Elementary, and the strain this will place on local infrastructure. These were not vague complaints; they were backed by data, including CMHC rental market figures and firsthand accounts from residents who live with these challenges every day.
Regrettably, Council showed little interest in engaging with the substance of what we presented. Rather than addressing our concerns, councillors asked questions that had nothing to do with the real impacts on our neighbourhood. It was deeply frustrating to watch our voices be sidelined in a process that is supposed to be about community input.
This decision reflects a troubling pattern at City Hall — one that prioritizes pushing through development at the expense of the livability and character of Vancouver’s neighbourhoods.
But this fight is not over. We showed up, we made our case, and we built a community of engaged residents who care about Kerrisdale. That doesn’t disappear with one vote.
I’ll be sharing next steps soon — including how we can continue to hold Council accountable and make our voices heard on future decisions that affect our neighbourhood.
