Mise à jour sur la pétitionStop Rezoning on Maple & 49th AvenueWe want to share an important update regarding the City’s latest direction on housing.

The City has now indicated it wants to create so-called “mini villages” across existing neighbourhoods, allowing 5–6 storey buildings in areas that were never planned for this level of density. This proposal appears to be a knee-jerk response—a rushed reaction driven by pressure to rapidly deliver purpose-built rental housing, rather than the result of careful, community-led planning.

While we fully support increasing rental housing supply, rushed densification without proper infrastructure, consultation, or neighbourhood context risks creating long-term problems:

Strain on schools, transit, and local services
Loss of neighbourhood character and livability
Precedents that permanently change zoning without clear limits

This approach feels less like thoughtful city-building and more like a panic to build quickly, regardless of whether the locations are appropriate or the impacts understood.

Our petition exists to ensure that housing solutions are planned, balanced, and transparent, not imposed through sudden policy shifts with minimal public input.

Please continue to share this petition, stay engaged, and make your voice heard. Decisions made now will shape our neighbourhoods for decades.

Thank you for standing with us.
