Mise à jour sur la pétitionSTOP REZONING for Asphalt Plant near Thomas Farms - Soddy Daisy, TN11/12/25 Planning Commission Punts Rezoning Decision to City Commissioners BUT IT AIN'T OVER YET!

In a 5:2 vote, members of the planning commission voted to recommend to the board of city commissioners rezoning nearly 4 acres of the proposed site from it's current C-2, A-1 and R-2A zones to an M-1 industrial district. Thomas is requesting this rezoning in order to put in an asphalt plant on his property that is close to residents, schools, creeks and special wildlife. Specifics about what kind of plant and what footprint have not been disclosed but we can deduce that approving rezoning to M-1 on some of his property will allow for further expansion of heavy industry on other parts of his property.

The Yay votes were from:
Mark Bivens, David Rodery, Phil Shipley, Rick Nunley, Teddy Jenkins

The Nay votes were from:
Marcus Keith and Mark Penney

It is CRITICAL that anyone in opposition please ATTEND the City Commission meeting this THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20th at 6pm Soddy Daisy City Hall.

NOTE: THE CITY COMMISSIONERS CAN VOTE TO APPROVE OR DENY THIS REZONING REQUEST REGARDLESS OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION'S RECOMMENDATION. So while it wasn't the outcome we would have preferred from our planning committee, THIS FIGHT AIN'T OVER YET!

City Commissioners Include:
Jim Coleman, Mayor - jim.coleman@soddy-daisy.org
Mark Penney, Vice-Mayor - mark.penney@soddy-daisy.org
Marcus Keith - marcus.keith@soddy-daisy.org
Travis Beene - travis.beene@soddy-daisy.org
Steve Everette - steve.everett@soddy-daisy.org

Channels 9, 3 and 12 have reported on this story this past week. Check their socials to read more.

It is clear that our community does not want heavy industry to take over the remaining farm lands and green spaces in the south side of our city's entrance. We must make it clear to our elected city commissioners that we are serious about this by showing up in person at the next meeting on November 20th at 6pm.

The support of this online petition will be helpful and we hope to get at least 1000 signatures from local residents before November 20th. Please sign and share (no donations required) and PLEASE SHOW UP on NOVEMBER 20th at 6pm! Opposition speakers will have 3 minutes each to address the commissioners.
