Fighting for Tenant Rights Against L&Q

As a resident of L&Q, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles and injustices that tenants endure. Despite their prestigious nominations for awards, the reality is starkly different for many of us living under their management.

Unresolved Repairs and Neglect
For far too long, L&Q has failed to address urgent repair issues. Many residents, including myself, have faced prolonged periods without adequate heating, leading to cold and unsafe living conditions. Reports of leaks, mold infestations, and structural issues are common, affecting our health and well-being. The lack of timely repairs not only compromises our comfort but poses serious risks to our safety.

Disregard for Tenant Voices
When we raise our concerns, they often fall on deaf ears. Many tenants feel ignored, with complaints dismissed or inadequately addressed. This lack of accountability creates an environment of frustration and disillusionment. It’s heartbreaking to see our pleas for help overlooked while the organization focuses on self-promotion.

Unsafe Living Environments
Many of us live in conditions that are not just uncomfortable but unsafe. Issues like dampness and poor structural integrity are ongoing concerns that compromise our living environments. Instead of providing the necessary support and resources, L&Q has pursued aggressive eviction processes, leaving vulnerable residents without assistance during difficult times.

Recognition Without Accountability
Despite these serious issues, L&Q is still nominated for awards. The irony is striking, especially when one of the judges is Fayann Simpson, a group board member of L&Q. This blatant conflict of interest undermines the integrity of the awards process and raises questions about the values that these organizations claim to uphold.

The ongoing struggles of tenants should not be overshadowed by lavish ceremonies and self-congratulatory events. We need to hold L&Q accountable for their actions and ensure that their treatment of residents is brought to light.

It is time for change. Together, we can amplify our voices and demand better living conditions and respect for tenant rights. Let us stand united against the injustices we face and ensure that L&Q and similar organizations are held responsible for their actions.

Many residents, including myself, have faced severe emotional and psychological distress due to L&Q’s neglect. The lack of timely repairs, faulty heating systems,unsafe living conditions, and a dismissive attitude towards our concerns have left us feeling trapped and hopeless. This neglect is not just an inconvenience; it impacts our health, safety, and overall quality of life.No duty of care from this company for the residents at All.

If L&Q continues its current practices, the toll on residents’ mental health will only worsen. Many tenants feel abandoned, leading to feelings of despair and, in some cases, suicidal thoughts. On the other hand, if changes are made The audacity of L&Q being shortlisted for ‘Best Older People’s Landlord’ is astounding, given their tragic failures. For instance, a coroner sent L&Q a letter after a resident died of hypothermia following an unanswered call about a faulty boiler. Additionally, an inquest revealed that L&Q’s failings contributed to the death of Marwo Kassim, who fell from her balcony after an epileptic seizure due to unsafe accommodations. Furthermore, a coroner issued a warning regarding fixed window restrictors after another resident’s death in a high-rise block. If changes are made—accountability is enforced, and living conditions improve—there is a chance for recovery and rebuilding trust within the community.

Why is Now the Time to Act?

Immediate action is crucial. The ongoing issues faced by tenants cannot be ignored any longer. We must demand accountability and change now to prevent further suffering. The time for empty promises and awards for poor performance is over; we need real solutions to protect vulnerable residents and ensure safe, supportive housing for everyone.
