WHO THIS AFFECTS?  veterans, pets, children, your property, your health, our land and wildlife

FACTS WE KNOW:

1. Veterans that have served our country suffer from PTSD.

2.  Adults, children, and pets are scared by unpredictable and constant loud    explosions. Residential fireworks trigger anxiety and damage.

3.  The state of Iowa is in a severe drought.

4.  The Midwest endured 5 days of very unhealthy air quality from 490 active Canadian wildfires burning over 19 million acres in 7 months. Smoke from fireworks is 4 times worse than smoke from forest fires. 

5. There are respectful and safe ways to show patriotism.

On the 4th of July, our cities did not look patriotic, it looked, sounded, and smelled like a war zone. Pets hiding and terrified, not even able to have a conversation in your own yard or inside your home, loud explosions all sides of my home and in the streets. The last thing anyone needs is a fire or damage after our long rebuild from the derecho. Times are very different friends and neighbors and we can do better! 

CALL TO ACTION:  

Sign this petition today to stop residential fireworks in Marion and Cedar Rapids. Celebrate Independence Day at the City Fireworks display. This action with eliminate the hundreds of unnecessary calls to our police and fire departments and allow them to focus efforts on true emergencies and greatly improve our environment.
