The Truth Hurts
May 30, 2018 — One of our supporters - let's call him Mr X - recently got a slapped wrist from Moonpig for sending an anonymous card that might cause distress. Mr X said that apparently one of the Raystede trustees had contacted Moonpig requesting, without success, the name of the sender of this card because it had the above photograph on the front. I agree, it is a very upsetting picture. I hesitated before posting it here. But then I realised that unless we force ourselves to look at these things we will never be able to stop them. We have to look. And we especially have to make the people who pay for it look. They only get angry because they know we're right and they don't want to face it. The following is what Mr-X wrote inside the card:
"Consumers of meat and dairy are murderers by proxy. Those who encourage others to do it in the name of animal welfare are the worst of them.
There is no need for animal protein in the human diet and therefore eating it is done only for pleasure. Animals suffer horrifically for the meat, fish, dairy and egg industries and since hurting animals for pleasure goes against everything Raystede stands for, it should not serve animal products in its cafe.
Saving some animals does not give you a free pass to brutalize others. Raystede could be a leader in compassion, showing others the way and saving so many more animals. Honour your founder and do as she would have done - make the cafe vegan."
As you can see, there is nothing threatening or abusive in that message, so the trustee's response to it is very telling. We have a response at last! We know we're getting somewhere. Keep writing, keep phoning, keep emailing - they do hear us. (see the last update for trustees' addresses or go to https://www.raystede.org/contact to contact the company directly)
Thank you so much for your continued support, and don't forget if you want to contact me you can do so through the website https://makeraystedevegan.wordpress.com/
