stop racism, oppose homophobia

The Issue

What is Racism and homophobia?

Racism and homophobia are two deep subjects based on discrimination that continue to plague our society. These divide communities and progress towards an inclusive world. To foster a safe society that embraces diversity and promotes equality, it is cruel that we stand united against racism while also opposing homophobia.

Why sign this petition?

This petition aims to gather support and advocate for removing these beliefs, as we strive towards a fairer and more honest caring future. We will spread awareness by sending this petition to Dean Bolden when we reach 50 signatures, in hopes of making new clubs, spreading awareness of current clubs, and having more assemblies to discuss this topic. Let us join to combat racism by encouraging diversity in media: calling for more descriptions of diverse racial and ethnic groups in media, challenging stereotypes, and promoting inclusivity. By signing our petition, we commit to unite against racism and homophobia. Together, we can create a future that embraces diversity. Promotes equality and rejects discrimination. Let our group work towards a world where everyone is respected and accepted, regardless of race or sexual orientation.

Facts about racism and homophobia in schools:

(According to SHRM):
“The EEOC filed 143 discrimination or harassment lawsuits in fiscal year 2023, which began on Oct. 1, 2022, and ended Sept. 30, 2023, according to a recent report by the agency. This represents a more than 50 percent increase over the filings from fiscal year 2022.”

(According to Newport Academy):
“Research shows that lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) teens are at increased risk of suicide and mental health issues like depression and anxiety. One of the most startling statistics: LGBTQ teens consider suicide and make suicide attempts at about four times the national rate for all adolescents.”

(According to World Justice Project):
“The latest edition of the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index—the world’s leading, independent source of rule of law data—finds that 70% of countries have seen discrimination worsen between 2021 and 2022. Since 2015, discrimination has increased in three-fourths of the countries WJP studied. ”
