Throughout the trial, the defendants have denied that the police engage in racially discriminatory stop-and-search practices.

However, a groundbreaking large-scale comparative study on police stops of Japanese and non-Japanese individuals conducted by the legal team reveals that people with foreign backgrounds are stopped by police at overwhelmingly higher rates than Japanese citizens.

At the upcoming court session, the plaintiffs’ legal team will put forth their strongest case yet.
