＼Foreign-born residents file lawsuit in Japan over alleged racial profiling by police／ #STOPRacialProfiling

Three plaintiffs who have been repeatedly subjected to racially discriminatory police questioning filed a lawsuit on January 29 in the Tokyo District Court against the national government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Aichi Prefecture.

One of the plaintiffs said, "What I have experienced is just the tip of the iceberg. The three plaintiffs decided to raise their voices not only for themselves, but also for all those who suffer from racial profiling, in order to make more people aware of this issue and to change the system.

Being treated as a potential criminal by police officers because of their ethnicity or appearance is a serious violation of human rights that undermines human dignity.We believe that such a practice is undesirable in a society where people from diverse backgrounds live together. We have decided to file a lawsuit against the government and others, demanding the end of the racially discriminatory practice. (From the defense lawyers)
