Today we presented our petition to city council, reinforcing our opposition to unfettered development plans under the guise of addressing the pressing housing crisis.
While it seemed this exercise was in vane, as council and the city apparently ratified the developer’s proposal without notifying the/our community, we voiced our displeasure with them and fact they are failing their mandate as elected officials - to represent their constituents. Our ward 7 councillor double talks, as most politicians do, to justify their actions.
We highlighted these high density builds to address the housing crisis is a short sighted, political point scoring measure, that has long term implications and covers up the failures of all three levels of government to prevent the current situation. Without addressing short term rentals, foreign ownership and increasing immigration quotas, the housing short falls will continue no matter how many units they build. I’m the meantime, we’re becoming an overbuilt city with unsightly towers, encroaching on the balanced neighborhoods that exist today.
Council let slip the plan for Mississauga is to build 120,000 units in 5 yrs with 50,000 of those along Hurontario!!!! Imagine what we’re in for!!!!
We’ll keep the petition open with the hopes these politicians start valuing into the fact they’re not addressing our concerns. Hopefully as elections approach in the future, they’ll be reminded where we stand on their poor decisions.
