Impose An Immediate Moratorium on Pending Suicide Attempt Cases

Impose An Immediate Moratorium on Pending Suicide Attempt Cases
The Issue
There has been a drastic increase in the number of suicide attempts and fatal suicides during this pandemic. We've recorded over 1,099 suicides during the pandemic and 1,080 recorded suicide attempts just in 2020.
It isn’t viable to decriminalise suicide in this current political scene. Section 309 will take time to repeal, especially when the parliament has yet to convene.
This doesn't mean that suicide attempt victims should suffer for the time being. People are already suffering to the point of taking their life, the last thing we need is to further punish them by slapping a hefty fine and jail time.
Hence, we urge the AGC and Members of Parliament to impose an immediate moratorium and halt prosecutions of suicide attempt cases. It is the least the government can do now to show their support to the victims of suicide attempts if decriminalisation isn't feasible.
