Many thanks for supporting this petition. We are over two thousand strong and counting! But to convince the town board to listen, we need an overwhelming tidal wave of support! Please keep sharing our petition with friends and neighbors!
The proposed development at Stanhope is only one example of "spot zoning." What is spot zoning? It's when a developer proposes to change the zoning within an established residential district in order to build higher density housing and thus increase their profits. For example, the area around Stanhope is zone R-80, meaning each house must sit on at least 2 acres of land,. The developer wants to change the zoning to R5, meaning each residence would need only 1/8 of an acre. The town of Huntington has an agreed upon growth plan intended to preserve existing zoning. This protects the essential character of our neighborhoods and town centers. Allowing developers to change the zoning within a given area with an established and desirable density of population goes against the town's growth plan -- as it is threatening Stanhope Stables. Many of us plan to attend the Huntington town board meeting June 13, 7pm, to speak out against this. The meeting is open to the public. If you can attend, we will be glad to see you!
