Stop Private & Harmful Advertisements on BMTC Buses — Protect Public Property!

Stop Private & Harmful Advertisements on BMTC Buses — Protect Public Property!
The Issue
We, the citizens of Karnataka, respectfully urge the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and the Government of Karnataka to immediately stop displaying private and harmful advertisements on BMTC buses and public transport property.
• BMTC buses are funded by public money (our taxes) and are meant to serve the people of Karnataka.
Currently, buses carry ads for movies, TV serials, gold loan companies, and products like pan masala, which are private commercial promotions that do not serve public interest.
Some ads, particularly for tobacco or pan masala, are harmful to public health and violate the spirit of using public-funded property for the benefit of citizens.
Our Demands:
1. Ban all private commercial advertisements that do not promote public welfare.
2. Only allow ads on BMTC buses that serve public interest, such as:
Health awareness
Education campaigns
Civic information
Public services
3. Ensure any revenue from advertisements is transparently used for public benefit — improving BMTC services, infrastructure, or public welfare programs.
Why This Matters:
BMTC buses belong to the people of Karnataka, and it is the government’s responsibility to manage them ethically and in public interest. Using public-funded property for private profit, without public consent, is unfair and morally questionable.
We request the authorities to take immediate action and implement strict citizen-first advertising guidelines on all public transport in Bengaluru.
Sign this petition if you believe public property should serve public interest — not private profit!
