Stop porn from ruining the future of the world's children

The Issue

The Porn industry is ruining the lives of hundreds of millions of children around the world.

As a child, your first exposure to porn was probably around the age of 11 or 12, which is young, but for many, is also normal. Yet, it'll come as a shock to you, as it did to me, when you discover that hundreds of thousands of children have their first exposure to porn as young as 6 years old.

Why is it so easy for a child, some as young as 6, to type 4 letters into a search engine and then view 2 adults having sex?

Children who discover this adult content at such a young age become addicted, almost desperate to see this content, becoming unable to go just a day without watching it at least once. And as the addiction develops over the years, those who get exposed no longer feel satisfied by the videos they would originally watch, meaning they turn to exotic, unusual and, in some cases, illegal content instead.

And yet, nothing is being done to stop this. Sites that contain pornography aren't even required to ask for the users date of birth. To access the hundreds of porn sites in the world, all you need to do, is simply press a button labelled "I'm over 18". How does anyone think that will work?

Countries around the world need to sign into law one thing that will actually work. The requirement to provide government issued, photo ID in order to access any site with pornography

Sites dedicated to the content should require photo ID just to open the site, but other services, such as Discord and Snapchat, should filter pornographic content, hiding it away from users they know are under 18, or even better, to users that haven't verified their age with a Photo ID

But that's what the government should do. As an individual, what can you do? Not much, in all honesty, but you can do one, quick thing that will help bring the attention of governments around the world onto the matter. What is that one thing? Just spending 1 or 2 minutes signing this petition and asking your friends and family to do the same. That is all that you as an individual need to do.

If we come together as an international community, as the intelligent species that we are, we can fix this problem, now and into the future.
