Following our presentation of the petition to Hackney Council last month, we have now have confirmation that the petition has been referred to Cabinet, the decision-making body, for discussion on January 23rd. We are pleased with this result as it will present an opportunity for us to make the case for reversing the decision directly to the decision-making body.
At the Council meeting we had cross-party support from opposition Councillors, Green and Conservative. They spoke out against the Council’s disregard for facts and urged them to review evidence when considering this again in Cabinet. Shockingly however Labour Councillors voted against this, actively refusing to consider evidence.
This is an outrageous approach. We‘re therefore encouraging all Hackney residents and workers to write to their Councillor, tell them how unhappy they are with this, and urge them to reconsider the evidence.
