Why this petition matters

Started by Pickleball Rob

There is a movement afoot to combat the noise, a percussive pop, pop, pop generated by America's fastest growing sport,  Pickleball.  Pickleball play generates significant noise from the paddle and ball that we have shown with our expert sound studies to violate state and local sound laws.  The problem is that it only effects folks within 600 feet of the courts.  Disputes arise from people believing "majority rules" rather than a "first do no harm" litmus.  The result is costly for neighbors financially, legally, and emotionally. The Pickleball enthusiast are fighting neighbors for their rightful piece of the recreational pie, while those within range are fighting for their right to peaceful enjoyment of their property.  Forward thinking communities are taking the side of experts and siting Pickleball courts 600 feet from homes.

Yep, agreed, it is a difficult cause to rally around in a post pandemic, post Roe v Wade, Ukraine war, crazy inflation world.   However, it is tough to think about anything but the noxious  "clucking through a megaphone" noise that Pickleball play generates when you live within 600 feet of Pickleball courts.  The solution is simple.  Believe the science, obey the sound laws in place to protect ones property. Most importantly, let's create pickleball venues that allow for community enjoyment of the sport in areas designated and approved for pickleball play 600 feet from private homes. Contact your state reps to put forth regulation for an easy win to solve this simple problem.  Enthusiast say its the most democratic sport bringing all  political persuasions together.  Promote this sport with this petition to create Pickleball venues worthy of the enthusiasm it is generating for public recreation and contact your state reps.

More locally, where we live near the Lawrence School in Falmouth MA, on Cape Cod, on any decent or even marginal weather day my family can certainly hear it over 300 feet away. The percussive sound of pickleball play. The persistent pop pop pop rises above all other sounds generated in the neighborhood and travels through any open windows. When my kids started complaining about the noise, I knew I was on the right side of sanity.  If you can hear it, or if you have empathy for those folks  40, 80, and under 600 feet away that no longer open their windows, relax outside, read on the deck, or putter about outside please sign this petition.  Neighbors at 40ft and 80ft hear it inside their now closed homes.  Living with the sound of pickleball inside your home all day long will drive any one to the edge of sanity. People say to us, "You moved next to a school!".  My reply is that we have folks living here 40, 50, and 60 years with no noise complaints... Until Pickleball came to town.
