The Issue

Our local shelters in Valdosta, GA, are facing a severe overcrowding crisis. Every day in Georgia, countless dogs are euthanized simply because there is no room to house them. The shelters are bursting at the seams with pets in desperate need of homes, and adding a Petland store to our community would only exacerbate this dire situation.

Petland is known for breeding and selling ill puppies, often sourced from puppy mills where profit trumps the well-being of animals. These puppies are born into conditions that are overcrowded and unsanitary, lacking access to exercise, socialization, and crucial veterinary care. The female dogs in these mills endure the heart-wrenching cycle of forced breeding until their bodies can no longer sustain it, after which they are cruelly discarded like unwanted objects.

As residents of Valdosta, it is our responsibility to stand against a business that not only jeopardizes the existing stray and shelter dog problem but also supports these inhumane practices. Allowing Petland to open a store in our town would send the wrong message about our community's values and priorities.

Instead, we should focus on supporting adoption and rescue efforts, fostering relationships with local humane societies, and encouraging pet lovers to adopt rather than shop. By doing so, we can give these deserving animals the chance to find loving homes and lead healthy, happy lives.

Please join us in opposing the establishment of a Petland store in our community. Let's prevent further harm to animals and support ethical, humane options by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference and protect the voiceless pets in Valdosta.
