Stop persons from using "Jain" surname without following vegetarianism

The Issue

I recently was involved in an incident that left me appalled. During a dinner with a foreign acquaintance, I was met with surprise when I explained that as a Jain, I do not eat Non-Veg. The foreigner was astounded, stating they knew a person with the Jain surname who routinely ate meat. This event sedimented my concerns about similar persons in the society using the Jain "surname", but not adhering to the core principles of Jainism - mainly the tenet of 'Live and Let Live', which promotes vegetarianism among other core values of ahimsa.

I discussed with a dear friend, Snehal, that today, a significant number of Digambar Jains with the 'Jain' surname continue to consume meat, disregarding the fundamental precepts of the faith. It sparks resentment among true followers and sends incorrect messages about Jainism's principles to the world. This act not only dishonors the faith but also hurts the sentiments of millions of practicing Jains globally. We wouldn't often hear a surname as 'Mr. Hindu', 'Mr. Muslim', or 'Mr. Sikh' being used casually; so why should 'Jain' be any different? Only the follower of the faith proudly flaunted that they were "Jain" to avoid being questioned about certain principles such as veganism.

While it is understood that personal freedom allows individuals to live as they choose, it is baffling to see the Jain surname used by those who don't adhere to Jainism's basic ethos. Why use the name Jain if one isn't inclined to respect its implicated principles?

Therefore, this petition seeks to file a "John Doe" Injunction Order against each individual who uses 'Jain' in their name but fails to adhere to the vegetarianism tenet that the faith strictly implies. This order will help maintain the sanctity and sincerity of the Jain surname and contribute in preserving the true essence of Jainism. If any such person feels that they cannot be a Jain and continue to eat non Veg food. We could help them change their name and the expenses would be borne by us.

Your signature can help raise awareness and respect towards the Jain faith and its followers. Please sign and support this cause to help uphold the integrity of the Jain surname.
