Stop Period Profit
The issue
Period poverty is the inability to afford and access menstrual products, sanitation and hygiene facilities and education and awareness to manage menstrual health. Period poverty is a global health issue affecting women and girls in both rich and poor countries.
What women and girls can use to manage their menstrual health and hygiene varies widely, based on their income and whether they live in urban or rural areas. Period poverty costs women and girls too much and it doesn't have to be this way. Many countries are still affected by the period stigma and taboo, inadequate exposure to menstrual health and its management, lack of education about menstruation, and shortage of access to menstrual products and facilities and the amount of money that corporations are making off women having periods is insane.
1 in 5 Aussie women are experiencing period poverty because of the high prices of sanitary items. In Australia alone, the revenue generated in the Feminine Hygiene market amounts to AUD$425.38 million in 2024.
To fix this I believe that local, national and global governments should allocate money or find better solutions to provide free menstrual products in schools, public restrooms, workplaces, and shelters and have good sanitation and hygiene infrastructure. Like clean and safe restrooms equipped with water, soap, and disposal bins for menstrual products.
If you agree that women deserve sanitary products as a human right rather than a privelage for something that out bodies can not help, then please sign this petition to help make change!
