people are very mean to me and its not nice. like zoe, she is very mean. i dont like mean people. mean people cause depression and when depression it is bad.

Mean people can have a negative impact on the world because their actions, words, and attitudes can hurt others, damage friendships, and create an environment where people feel unhappy, uncomfortable, or afraid to be themselves. Being mean is not just about saying something rude or making a joke at someone else's expense. It can also involve excluding people, spreading rumours, making fun of others, being disrespectful, or deliberately making someone feel worthless. Although some people might think that being mean makes them look cool, powerful, funny, or popular, the reality is that treating others badly can cause serious emotional and social problems. A world where people are constantly mean to one another would be a world with less kindness, less trust, fewer friendships, and much more unnecessary suffering.

One of the biggest reasons mean people are bad is that their actions can hurt other people's feelings and damage their confidence. Everyone has feelings, even people who seem happy, confident, or strong on the outside. When someone is insulted, embarrassed, or treated unfairly, they might begin to question themselves and wonder whether there is something wrong with them. For example, if someone is constantly made fun of for their interests, hobbies, personality, or mistakes, they might eventually become embarrassed about the things that make them unique. Instead of feeling comfortable being themselves, they might start hiding their personality because they are worried about what other people will say. This is unfair because nobody should have to change who they are simply to avoid being bullied or insulted by someone else.

Another reason mean people are bad is that they can destroy friendships and make it difficult for people to trust one another. Friendships are built on respect, honesty, kindness, and understanding. When someone is consistently rude, selfish, or disrespectful, it becomes much harder for others to feel comfortable around them. People might begin to question whether that person genuinely cares about them or is only interested in making fun of them. If a friend constantly insults someone, reveals their secrets, or makes them feel bad in front of other people, the friendship can eventually fall apart. Trust is something that takes time to build, but it can be damaged very quickly by cruel behaviour. Once trust has been broken, it can be extremely difficult to repair, especially if the person who caused the damage refuses to apologise or take responsibility for their actions.

Mean people can also create a negative environment wherever they go. Whether they are at school, at home, playing sports, or interacting with people online, their behaviour can affect everyone around them. When someone is constantly making rude comments, starting arguments, or trying to embarrass others, people may begin to feel uncomfortable or nervous in their presence. Instead of enjoying themselves, they might spend their time worrying about becoming the next target of an insult or joke. This can turn an otherwise enjoyable environment into a stressful one. At school, for example, students should be able to focus on learning, making friends, and enjoying their education without having to worry about being bullied or humiliated. Mean behaviour can make it harder for people to participate, ask questions, and feel like they belong.

Furthermore, mean people often fail to understand that their words can have consequences long after they have said them. Someone might make an insulting comment and forget about it a few minutes later, while the person who received the comment might remember it for a very long time. This shows why people should think carefully before speaking. Words have the power to encourage people, make them feel appreciated, and help them become more confident. However, words can also discourage people, embarrass them, and make them feel unwelcome. Just because someone thinks something is funny does not mean that everyone else will find it funny. A joke that repeatedly targets another person's insecurities is not harmless simply because the person telling it is laughing. Real humour should bring people together rather than make one person feel miserable so that everyone else can have a laugh.

Another problem with mean people is that they can make others feel excluded and lonely. Humans naturally want to feel accepted and included by the people around them. When someone is deliberately left out of a group, ignored, or treated as though they do not matter, it can make them feel as if they have no place to belong. For instance, deliberately refusing to let someone join a game, leaving them out of a group activity, or encouraging others not to talk to them can be extremely hurtful. Even if the people doing these things believe that they are simply having fun with their friends, they should consider how the excluded person might feel. Everyone deserves the opportunity to make friends and participate in activities without being treated as though they are less important than everyone else.

Mean behaviour is also damaging because it can spread from one person to another. When people see someone being rude, aggressive, or disrespectful without facing any consequences, they might begin to believe that this behaviour is acceptable. They may copy the same actions in an attempt to fit in, gain attention, or impress their friends. Over time, a single person's negative attitude can influence an entire group. Instead of encouraging one another to be respectful, people might begin competing to see who can make the funniest insult or the most embarrassing joke. This creates a cycle of unkindness in which people continue treating others badly because they have become accustomed to seeing it happen. Breaking this cycle requires people to recognise that being mean is not something to celebrate and that standing up for kindness is much more valuable than joining in with cruelty.

In addition, mean people can damage their own relationships and reputations. Someone who regularly treats others badly might believe that they are gaining respect or popularity, but there is an important difference between being feared and being genuinely respected. People might laugh at someone's jokes because they are uncomfortable disagreeing with them, or they might pretend to enjoy their company because they do not want to become a target themselves. This does not necessarily mean that they genuinely like or respect that person. Real respect is earned through honesty, fairness, reliability, and consideration for others. A person who consistently behaves cruelly may find that others eventually avoid them or become unwilling to trust them. By treating people badly, they can lose opportunities to build meaningful friendships and positive relationships.

Being mean can also prevent people from solving problems properly. Everyone makes mistakes, disagrees with others, and experiences situations where they become frustrated or angry. However, responding to every disagreement with insults, shouting, or humiliation rarely solves the actual problem. Instead, it often creates even more conflict. For example, if two friends disagree about a game, they could calmly explain their opinions, listen to each other, and find a solution. However, if one person begins insulting the other, the disagreement can quickly turn into an argument. The original problem might become less important than the hurtful things that were said during the argument. Learning to communicate respectfully allows people to solve disagreements without unnecessarily damaging their relationships.

Another important reason mean people are harmful is that they can make others afraid to speak up for themselves. When someone is repeatedly criticised or laughed at for expressing their opinions, they might stop sharing their ideas. This can prevent people from participating in conversations, contributing to group projects, or standing up for what they believe is right. A respectful environment allows people to disagree without being insulted or threatened. People should be able to express their thoughts and ask questions without being made to feel stupid. Everyone has different experiences, perspectives, and ideas, and these differences can help people learn from one another. Mean behaviour discourages this kind of learning because it replaces understanding with fear and embarrassment.

Mean people can also have a negative influence on the wider community. A community works better when people cooperate, support one another, and treat each other fairly. When individuals constantly behave selfishly or disrespectfully, it becomes harder for people to work together towards common goals. Whether it is completing a school project, participating in a sports team, or helping someone who is struggling, cooperation requires people to treat one another with respect. A person who constantly puts others down or refuses to consider anyone else's feelings can make teamwork much more difficult. In contrast, people who are kind and supportive help create an environment where everyone feels comfortable contributing and working towards success.

It is also important to understand that being mean does not make someone stronger or better than the people they target. Sometimes people behave cruelly because they want to appear powerful or because they believe making others feel small will make them seem more important. However, genuine strength is not about controlling others, embarrassing them, or making them feel inferior. Genuine strength involves having the confidence to treat people fairly, even when there is pressure to do otherwise. It takes maturity to admit when you are wrong, apologise for hurting someone, and make an effort to improve your behaviour. Anyone can make a rude comment, but it takes much more character to remain respectful when things become difficult.

Moreover, mean people sometimes fail to consider that everyone is dealing with their own challenges. A person might be struggling with schoolwork, family problems, friendships, or other personal difficulties that nobody else knows about. When someone makes fun of them or treats them badly without understanding their situation, they can make an already difficult day even harder. This is why empathy is so important. Empathy means trying to understand how another person might feel and considering their perspective before acting. It does not mean that everyone has to agree with one another or become best friends. It simply means recognising that other people have feelings, experiences, and struggles that deserve consideration. A small act of kindness can make someone's day better, while an unnecessary insult can make it worse.

The internet and social media have also made it easier for people to behave meanly towards others. Some individuals feel more comfortable posting cruel comments online because they do not have to see the other person's immediate reaction. They might leave insulting messages, spread embarrassing rumours, or encourage others to make fun of someone. However, the fact that something happens online does not mean it is harmless. Online comments can reach large audiences and remain visible long after they have been posted. A single hurtful message can be shared repeatedly, making the person targeted feel exposed and embarrassed. People should remember that there is a real human being behind every screen and that the same standards of respect that apply in person should also apply online.

Another reason people should avoid being mean is that kindness can have a much more positive and lasting impact. When someone helps another person, offers encouragement, or includes someone who is feeling left out, they contribute to a better environment for everyone. Kindness does not have to involve huge gestures or expensive gifts. Sometimes it can be as simple as saying hello, listening to someone, helping a classmate understand a question, or standing beside someone who is being treated unfairly. These actions can help people feel accepted and appreciated. When people choose kindness instead of cruelty, they show that they value others as human beings and understand the importance of treating everyone fairly.

It is also important to recognise that making mistakes does not automatically make someone a bad person forever. People sometimes say things they regret, act out of frustration, or fail to understand how their behaviour affects others. However, what matters is whether they are willing to recognise their mistakes and make an effort to change. A genuine apology involves taking responsibility, acknowledging the harm caused, and trying not to repeat the same behaviour. Simply saying that someone is too sensitive or claiming that everything was just a joke does not undo the damage. People who take responsibility for their actions can learn from their mistakes and develop healthier relationships. This shows that choosing to be kinder is always possible and that people can improve the way they treat others.

In conclusion, mean people are harmful because their actions can hurt feelings, damage friendships, destroy trust, create conflict, and make people feel excluded or unwelcome. Their behaviour can affect individuals, friendships, classrooms, sports teams, and entire communities. Being mean might provide someone with a brief feeling of attention or superiority, but it often comes at the expense of other people's happiness and their own relationships. No one should have to experience unnecessary cruelty simply because they are different, make mistakes, or do not fit into a particular group. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their appearance, interests, background, personality, or abilities.

Ultimately, the world would be a much better place if people focused less on putting others down and more on lifting one another up. Being kind does not cost anything, but it can make a tremendous difference in someone's life. Instead of spreading rumours, making insulting comments, or deliberately excluding people, individuals should choose to support one another, communicate respectfully, and recognise the value of every person. The way we treat others reflects our character, and choosing kindness over cruelty helps create a world where people feel safer, happier, more confident, and more accepted.
